How it all began

The first edition of Huntenkunst took place in 1993. In recent years, this initiative has grown into an international art event. Huntenkunst aims to provide a platform for international contemporary visual art.

Huntenkunst first started in a marquee after the Huntenpop pop festival. From there, we moved to Doetinchem, eventually settling in the SSP hall in Ulft. We have grown from around 60 to 250 artists. Each year, a different country takes centre stage, and for the past few years we have been inviting graduates from Artez – Arnhem to take part.

Where Huntenkunst comes to life

The SSP hall is a former production hall (5,500 m²), where the famous DRU pan was once manufactured. At the end of May, an ‘art village’ is built here. The layout ensures that visitors constantly find themselves entering a new exhibition space. The ‘art streets’ create a community that prioritises colour and form. You are literally somewhere else, somewhere where wonder and beauty prevail and make you a part of the inner world of your fellow human beings.
